Palm Sunday 2011

Palm Sunday 17/04/2011

For the last 2 years Peel has celebrated Palm Sunday with a re-enactment of Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem on a donkey at the beginning of Holy Week. The celebrations start with a procession from Peel Castle through the town to St German’s Cathedral.

This year the procession, including a donkey called Kirrie, and the band, gathered at the Castle gate and were welcomed by the Reverend Canon Nigel Godfrey, vice-dean of St German’s Cathedral, before setting off along the harbour singing  hymns, accompanied by the band.

.Along the way the band led the gathering in a couple of hymns including Make Way, Make Way before stopping in Market Square, which was a welcome break, before carrying on to the Cathedral.

Once at the Cathedral the procession proceeded inside for a Palm Sunday service.
