Port Erin Lifeboat Day

Port Erin was buzzing on Sunday 15th August as the crew from the local lifeboat station held it’s annual Lifeboat Day. Large crowds enjoyed the glorious sunshine and all the activities that had been laid on, including raft races, Manx dancing, Waterzorbs, go karts, bouncy castles, model boats, planes, and classic cars.

The band played a mixture of light entertaining pieces of music on the quarterdeck (just opposite the Bridge Bookshop for those who know Port Erin) from 2.15 for about an hour and half. These included favourites such as:-


	- Father Rhine - Kalinka - What a Wonderful World - Kelly - Rondino Pathetique - Castell Coch - Wind Beneath My Wings - Classical Gold

		We also included a new piece of music as part of our own little celebration of the recent football World Cup held in South Africa, Vuvuzela. This is a fun, funky piece composed by Chris North which includes the now famous (or is it infamous) ‘musical’ instrument of the same name from South Africa which made such a big hit at the World Cup. For this we invited our 2 friends from Ramsey Band, Chris and Graeme Osborn, to play the Vuvuzela’s. This has become a piece much enjoyed by the younger members of the band and the audience. Our session concluded with the old favourite Instant Concert followed by ice creams for all the band.

A lovely way to spend a gorgeous Sunday afternoon.

You’ll notice from the pictures that a number of the older band members are wearing hats to protect their heads from the sun. After the concert we had an unofficial hat competition which was won by Arthur Christian our flugel horn player.
