I'm 87 years old! I joined the band in 1935 and have rarely missed a rehearsal or concert (other than during war service). In my time I've played cornet, baritone and now Eb bass. I've enjoyed it all and recommend it as a good, safe hobby for kids and adults. My father, Tom Stewart Cubbon was conductor of the band.

I joined Douglas Town Junior Band when I was 15 and moved into the senior band when I was 17, where I played Eb Bass, Bass Trombone and Bb Bass. I’ve been with Castletown for a long time now (can’t remember) where I teach the juniors and am the Deputy Conductor.

I joined the band in 2007 having never played a brass instrument before. However, I used to play clarinet and tenor sax and still play guitar and banjo. I currently play Eb Bass with the band.

I started with the Band when I was about 15yrs of age – on the tenor horn. After a year or so, I moved on to the B flat bass in time for our tour of Germany (in 2003), and I haven’t looked at another (brass) instrument since!
I play both piano and violin as well and am currently a student at St Andrews University but am able to continue my playing with the band when I am home for holidays.

I started serious drumming in 1990 with Castletown Metropolitan Silver Band. I undertook lessons with Mr Magowan (Laxey) and could do with a few more now! There is a great camaraderie in the band and I enjoy every moment.
