"Christmas is coming the goose is getting fat" and Castletown Band will soon be coming round playing carols. This year we've decided to again go around the streets of Castletown, playing carols and hopefully bringing a bit of festive cheer.
A great weekend at the end of October, starting off with a full band rehearsal with David Thornton. However, for David it didn't start off too well. Although he arrived on the island on time, his euphonium didn't make it onto the aircraft! Thankfully it did arrive on the Isle of Man on Saturday morning, in time for him to demonstrate playing techniques and to wow us all with a few pieces!
On Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd of November the band will be visited David Thornton who is regarded as one of the foremost euphonium players and teachers of his generation.
A new adventure for the band. We've played at garden parties, indoor concerts, competitions and even taken part in a film! Now we are embarking on a theatrical career.
The band held its' AGM last night, Tuesday 1st October, in the band room in Queen Street, Castletown in the presence of the band's President Mr Edwin Cubbon. The meeting was chaired by Mr Tony Brown, former MHK for Castletown and former island Chief Minister.
The band have 2 concerts coming up in the next couple of weeks.
We are actively looking for some key players to join our ranks. If you love playing music and are willing to commit some of your time to joining our friendly and active community band then you could be the person we’re looking for!
It's always sad when players leave the band, and in the last couple of weeks 2 players have decided to leave.
Now that Whit and TT are out of the way, we are entering our busy part of the summer. Over the next 10 weeks we have 18 engagements.
