A large crowd gathered in Castletown Square this evening to join in the celebrations of turning on this years' Christmas lights.
Just passed is traditionally one of the busiest weekends in our calendar and this year it also marked the last of our regular public engagements.
What a weekend that was! Three nights performing with the Freelance Players at the Erin Arts Centre and from the reaction of the audiences I think it’s safe to say that ‘’Gosforth’s Fete’’ was a huge success.
Tuesday 24th September saw the annual Last Night of The Proms concert organised by the Castletown Branch of the Royal British Legion take place in Castletown Methodist Church. The church had been decked out in legion banners, flags and bunting. This year as well as Castletown Metropolitan Silver Band taking part, we were joined by the Isle of Man Women’s Institute Choir, conducted by Don Roworth.
We've found a video on YouTube of Manannan Brass (made up mostly of Castletown Band players) playing at Heyrod Village as part of this years Whit Friday competitions.
Wow! Manannan Brass, the name chosen for the band, partly due to the fact we travelled over on the Steam Packets fast craft of the some name, have just returned from an enjoyable and memorable visit to the Whit Friday marches. The band was made up of members from Castletown, Douglas Town, Rushen Silver and Ramsey Town bands, with friends from off-island, some of which were student friends of Ian (our MD), ex-members of Castletown who are at university and other ex-Manxies. We also had a number of supporters with us.
This years concert at the Peel Pensioners Club on Wednesday was a concert of firsts - the first of 2013, the first solo for James Quine, and the first concert with Ian Astill as our new Musical Director.
