This year's annual poppy concert in Castletown was held for the first time in the new extension to Victoria Road School, and as in previous years had contributions from Castletown Band and the children from Victoria Road School. However, this year we were also joined by our colleagues from Rushen Silver Band.
The first joint concert between Castletown and our training band, Balley Cashtal Brass, was held at the Castletown Civic Centre on Tuesday 20th October.
It's been a busy August for the band, with 10 concerts being carried out as well as a number of players taking part in World War 1 Commemorations, including Arthur Christian's mammoth tour of the Isle of Man. Balley Cashtal Brass have also taken part in 3 concerts including a joint concert with the senior band at the Civic Centre in Castletown.
Although the band weren’t actively taking part in any organised events on the 4th August for the World War 1 commemorations, there were a few members of the band participating at venues across the island.
Although the weather wasn't quite as good as it had been, it was still a pleasant day on Saturday at the Southern Agricultural Show, Great Meadow in Castletown.
It was nice to see the bands on the island co-operating on Sunday 29th June and coming together to help commemorate Armed Forces Day. Players from Castletown Metropolitan, Rushen Silver, Ramsey Town and the Manx Youth Band combined together to lead the parade of 150 veterans and 40 serving personnel along Douglas Promenade from Regents Street to the Villa Marina. It was also good to see a large crowd lining the route.
Well, the Weathermen got that wrong! They'd originally said the weather this afternoon would have been fine, meaning that it would be a pleasant day at Laa Columb Killey in Ballabeg. Unfortunately it rained, although it was fairly light rain, it was definately rain.
What can beat sitting in the park having an ice cream, with people out on the boating lake, kids playing in the paddling pool, and the sounds of a brass band wafting through the air?
We had our first concert of the season last week at Morton Hall for the Castletown Over 60's Club. A good crowd was there to enjoy the playing, the bingo and the refreshments.
