It was good to see a large audience at our Last Night of the Proms at the Civic Centre in Castletown at the beginning of November when we were joined by the members of Balley Cashtal Brass and delighted to have Paul Costain taking part and leading the singing.

The band started with the rousing march by JP Sousa, Stars and Stripes Forever followed by the cornet solo Solitaire played by Rhianne Charnley.

During the evening Paul did 2 slots, singing a number of items inclduing Some Enchanted Evening from South Pacific and Ol' Man River from Showboat.

The first half concluded with Balley Cashtal Brass entertaining us with a number of items, introduced by their new compere, and percussionist, Dave Kneale.

The second half started with the march Holyrood, following which we were pleased to introduce our new Assistant Musical Director, Brian Osborn, who has taken over the role following the departure of Ian Astill who is continuing his studies at Bangor University. Brian conducted the band in I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables.

Paul then came on for his second stint of the evening singing songs inclduing Hearts of Oak.

We then went into the traditional Last Night music of Fantasy on British Sea Songs, including Rule Britannia, during which we were joined by a 'suitably' dressed Paul Costain to lead the singing. This was followed by Jerusalem and Pomp and Circumstance no 1.

It was great to see the audience involved in the singing and flag waving, but special thanks has to go to Paul for throwing himself into the swing of things, as can be seen in the picture.
