It looks like the band might have the bug for competing, as we took part in our second competition of the year on May 6th in Laxey. Garff Commissioners had organised a new event, Prash Laxaa, the Geat Laxey Brass Band Festival.

The event saw 3 of the islands bands, Castletown, Douglas Town Band and Ramsey Town Band taking part and playing a 20 minute programme outside different venues around the village. The bands then rotated so that by the end of the afternoon each band had played at each venue. This was followed by a massed band session in the centre of the village where the combined bands played a march from each of the programmes, conducted by the corresponding Musical Director. For a special finale, Ian Cottier presenter of Manx Radio's Time for Brass, conducted the massed bands in a rendition of Ellan Vannin.

Then it was time for the prize giving. Ramsey Town Band won the prize for presentation as well as the prize for entertainment.

It was a great afternoon enjoyed by everyone who was there. Congratulations to Ramsey Town Band, and a big thank you to Garff Commissioners for their great organisation and let's hope it becomes an annual event.
