The sun shone for the second year in Laxey for the Great Laxey Brass Band Festival, which following the success of last years event saw an increase in bands and venues to 5.

The bands taking part in this years event, organised by Garff Commissioners, were ourselves, Ramsey Town Band, Douglas Town Band, Manx Concert Brass and Rushen Silver Band. Each band played a 20 minute set at 3 of the venues before coming together in the Village Square for a final massed band session.

The 3 venues for Castletown were the Village Square, The Pavillions in Laxey Glen (one of the new venues for this year) and outside the Bridge Inn. Good crowds at all of the venues enjoyed varied programmes from each of the bands.

Although a friendly gathering there was a slight competitive edge as prizes were awarded to Rushen Silver Band for the most entertaining band on the day.
